The Earth is composed mostly of water. Thus, it is common to see sports that are based on beaches and seas. One of the most popular activities done in beaches is surfing. Teens and adults have fun while surfing, especially when they are able to catch good waves while in beautiful weather. Many beaches around the world have become well-known due to their surfing spots. To promote the activity even more, some groups have established surfing competitions that focus on the player’s skill and style while riding the waves. Different media have covered these events and they are now shown in major television stations worldwide.
Surfing uses balance as its main strategy. Since waves are erratic, the surfers should be able to keep themselves on the board even when the waves try to push them out. Many surfers look for big waves where they can ride underneath its current. This is called the “tube.” Surfers go to beaches where tube waves are common. Thus, sporting committees also go to these beaches to hold their contests. Surfing competitions are won based on the player’s style and difficulty of tricks. Although limited, the tricks done in surfing competitions are hard since the player will need to assess the quality of the wave he plans to surf on.
A physically fit body is needed to excel in surfing. It is rare to see physically unfit surfers because this extreme sport needs good leg control and a strong upper body. Surfers often take time to work out to build on their balance and strength. They also need to have good stamina since they will be out in the sun for long periods. Surfing is considered an extreme sport since there are dangers in various beaches. Aside from rocks that may be in the surfing area, sea creatures such as sharks and jellyfishes can also pose as a problem.
